Steps to fix QuickBooks Error 6189

There might be many causes because of which error 6189 is appearing, so there are many solutions corresponding to each problem.

So, we can try some of these:

Restart your computer; restart all those computers having your company file. If the file is on the server then maybe restart the server. Now open the file again.
Install the QuickBooks database manager on your server. At least one among either QuickBooks or QuickBooks database manager should be installed on the server through which your computers are connected and on which your company file is stored. After doing this again start the computers and the server.
As mentioned earlier, if the file is located on some Network Attached Storage, that might be a reason for errors to occur because of the incompatible nature of the USB and other portable devices due to which your computer loses some of its functionality. All this inconvenience occurs because these devices are not allowed to use the QuickBooks Database Manager.
Do not use online sharing services or any other online sync system. The use of online backup utilities sometimes is the cause of error -6189. Avoid using your file in this manner. If necessary, then it is better if you first copy the file contents in the C drive of your computer.
QuickBooks seriously opposes the use of encryption on the company file. So, if you have activated encrypting software, do consult your software vendor and get it off.
